ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE REALLY REPRESENTS MODERN TOURISM
We celebrated Tourism Week in Saskatchewan in June. This helps bring attention to Saskatchewan and the impact of tourism here. The tourism industry contributes significantly to the our economy. Travel expenditures in 2017 reached 2.37 billion dollars. There are about 3,200 tourism organizations and operators across Saskatchewan that offer more than 4,000 tourism products and experiences.
Heritage really represents modern tourism. The role of the Architectural Heritage Society is to encourage meaningful preservation of built heritage across Saskatchewan including homes, schools, churches, offices, shops, theatres, barns, grain elevators, railway stations, bridges or landscapes. We also promote the more than 800 properties and landscapes across the province that have been protected by the various levels of government for benefit of future generations.
What makes historic places special? They always seem grounding. Architecture helps us see and understand the process of history. This legacy is ours. Experience Saskatchewan this year.
